The QUAYSIDE COMMUNITY BOARD (QCB) is comprised of one delegate and one alternate from all eighteen residential buildings in the geographical location known as ‘The Quayside’ in New Westminster, BC, Canada. The Quayside [Key-side] Community Board is a dedicated group of members representing just over 2200 units and an estimated 4500 plus individual residents in this close-knit community. QUAYSIDE is a jewel on the Fraser River and the board is dedicated to keeping it as such. Meeting on the last Wednesday of each month, this board works on issues and matters related to the well-being of their community. In addition, the board works with local and surrounding businesses to ensure that the members of the overall community continue to live in an area that is clean, safe, managed and above all enjoyable.
The Quayside Community Board is devoted to: Representing Residents, Community Issues, Assisting Strata Corporations, Housing Cooperatives and Community Planning for the Quayside area.

Great news for the environment![/x_custom_headline][x_image type=”none” src=”https://quay.white-shirt.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/COAL-remix-02191-web.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][cs_text class=”cs-ta-center”]On a wickedly cold, wind slapping Sunday on April 21st, 2013, Quayside, Queensborough and New West citizens gathered to hear details, and protest against a proposed plan by Fraser Surrey Dock and Port Metro to build a coal facility across the Fraser to move USA thermal coal to Texada island and further points east. Today, those brave souls who stood against nature and coal have seen that day pay off in a victory against coal.
In a TYEE article by Larry Pynn [READ HERE] the coal port has been cancelled. Citing “Port spokesperson Danielle Jang confirmed on Friday, Feb. 1 that the 2015 approval came with 83 conditions that “must be adhered to” and that the project permit had been cancelled because the company had failed to show substantial progress by the required date.” While the permit has been cancelled, the QCB is unsure if FSD can reapply for a new permit thus bringing this terminal back for another round.
Of course, the QCB did not stop the coal terminal on its own, but it did play a catalytic and historical role by being the first in New West to organize and protest against the proposed terminal. This first anti-coal protest in New West was organized by the QCB and a then unknown citizens group ‘Voters Taking Action On Climate Change’. Quay speakers included then Councillor Jonathon Coté, MP’s Peter Julian and Fin Donnelley, VTAOCC’s Kevin Washbrook, and a special appearance by the Raging Grannies. This was also the beginning of the first anti-coal petition which was officially presented at the Metro Vancouver Regional District public hearings on the case.
To further support the QCB protest, and armed with the knowledge that a planned four million tonnes of thermal coal per year was expected from the Wyoming Powder River Basin, QCB President James Crosty (L) met privately with the Wyoming’s Govenor Mead (R) [June 2013 | see image] to present the QCB/New West position and opposition to the proposed project.
While there are hundreds of groups, residents and politicians that deserve to be on this Victory Band Wagon (and there are some that don’t), it is important to remember where the fight began on a cold, harsh day in April 2013 – the QCB and Quay residents!
